Information about Dr.Shrirang Upasani's work on Music Therapy

Dr Shrirang Upasani is a graduate in Homeopathy from the University of Pune, India. He practices Homeopathy for the last 16 years in Pune and Mumbai. He is recognised specially for his interest in research of treatments in Respiratory illnesses like Allergies, Rhinitis, Bronchitis, Allergic Bronchitis (Asthma), Hay Fever, Influenza.

Dr. Upasani is also known for his research and interest in Stress related disorders, Psychiatric disorders.

Dr. Upasani applies natural Bach Flower and homeopathic and biochemic salt remedies to help the body rejuvenate itself.

As he belongs to the family of Great Kirtankar of Maharashtra, he has inherited his melodious voice from his family’s culture. Especially Indian classical and semi-classical music runs in his blood – his great grandfather Shri Upasani Maharaj was a renowned Kirtankar from Nizampur in Maharashtra.

His Research inclined mind and the gift of his family’s culture helped him to come up with the idea of using Music as Therapy which is based on the basic principles of Raagas (A composition based on group of musical notes in a particular manner in Indian classical Music), basic principles of Ayurveda the most ancient holistic way of living life and Yoga. In this he uses Hindustani Classical alone or in fusion with Western Music.

He uses music for therapy in a holistic manner. This includes using Raagas at appropriate times (morning, afternoon, evening etc.) in specific manner which is therapy based to bring about healing. He also uses Raagas to treat imbalance of Tridoshas integrating music therapy with Ayurveda according to principles outlined in the Sangita Ratnakara composed by Sharangdeva in the 13th century.
He is learning Hindustani classical from Great Pandit Rajendra Kandalgaonkar who is a disciple of Late Pandit Bhimsen Joshi.

Dr. Upasani has conducted various workshops on Music Therapy in Pune, Mumbai, Ahmednagar, Germany.

Dr. Upasani was recently invited by a group of doctors including neurologist to Germany to present his work and to conduct a workshop on Music therapy.

Dr. Upasani is an avid traveler, reader, composer and yoga practitioner. In his free time, he likes to engage himself in singing or composing Music.
