Deviated Nasal Septum  is a commonest  disorder of the nose, involving a deviation or displacement or a of the nasal septum  { The nasal septum is the tissue between your nostrils which separates the left and right airways in the nose }. When you have a deviated nasal septum, it causes decreased airflow in the smaller nasal passage, resulting in sinus infections, nosebleeds, congestion and difficulty breathing.

Common cause of deviated nasal septum { DNS } is impact trauma, injury to the Nose. It can also be present since childhood .

Estimates are that 80 percent of all nasal septums are off-center, a condition that is generally not noticed. Generally symptoms starts appearing when the septum is badly shifted to one side due to which it narrows the nasal passage considerably.

Symptoms due to deviated Nasal Septum

The most common symptom of a deviated septum is nasal congestion, with one side of the nose being more congested than the other. Due to this affected person may suffer from  difficulty in  breathing. Recurrent  sinus infections { Sinusitis } is one of the effect  of a deviated septum. Affected person may get  frequent nosebleeds, pain in the sinus areas due to Sinusitis  ,headaches ,postnasal drip,  snoring during sleep.

A deviated septum may also cause sleep apnea, a condition in which a person stops breathing during sleep. Again due to which a person doesn’t get enough deep sleep due to which  suffers from symptoms like fatigue, improper digestion, hyperacidity etc.

Long Term effects of Deviated Septum on the body

As there is blockage in the nasal passage due to deviated septum obviously there is breathing difficulty, so there is lack of proper oxygen supply to the body which causes problems in the Immune system. So  generally people with Deviated Nasal Septums shows Chronic cold, Allergies etc.

Chronic Bronchitis, Hay fever, Asthma ,etc.  may get aggravated because of Deviated Nasal septum.In some cases we may see that due to Deviated Septum a person may get Recurrent cold which may get converted into Chronic Cold, Bronchitis which may lead to Asthma , Allergies.
